To prevent fear, anxiety, and aggression issues later in life, puppies need to receive safe exposure to their world! Socialization to new sights, sounds, and situations is critical to developing confident and resilient adult dogs.

The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommends that puppies start in a puppy class prior to receiving all core vaccinations!

Pattern Games, Loose Leash Walking and the basic cues taught in Level 1 will be worked on each week, with an emphasis on specific issues caregivers are having with their dogs.

Level 2 does not need to be taken in order.

  • Level 3 is designed to help generalize the skills in Level 1 & 2, including distance/position from handler and increased distractions.

Each week, we will review and strengthen the Pattern Games, basic cues, and Loose Leash Walking techniques from Level 1.

Depending on the dogs in the class, we may even switch handlers to help your dog learn to generalize listening to other people.

Scent Detection

The nose knows!

Dogs have been using their noses to help humans find stuff for ages! Time to tap into that incredible super power with scent detection training.

In this class:

  • Conditioning scent (Wintergreen is the starter!)

  • Teaching an indication

  • Increasing “the drive to find!”

  • Finding scent in several different containers

  • Finding scent hidden in obstacles

To find out more about scent detection (sometimes called Nosework), take a look through the Sporting Detection Dogs Association website.

Policies & Guidelines for all Group Classes

    • Flat or martingale collar, harness or head collar & a 4ft-6ft standard leash. Any other tool will be removed or switched.

    • Variety of small, HIGH VALUE bite size treats (eg. hot dogs, cheese, chicken, training treats)

    • Pacifier to give during break periods (stuffed kong, licky mat, bully/collagen stick, etc)

    • Up to date dog vaccinations appropriate for their age: Bordetella, 2-3 Distemper/Parvo boosters and Rabies, puppies under 16 weeks are an exception.

    REMEMBER:

    • Group classes are to allow you to gain the knowledge to train your dog and work with distraction, introducing the dog to strange dogs can increase their value and is risky.

    • Only use your dog’s leash to limit the dog's distance from you. Do not drop leash unless told to. Keep control over your dog within the training space.

    • Do not use verbal cues unless the trainer indicates to do so. It is distracting and if the dog doesn't respond- frustrating.

    • Lastly, there is no need to be embarrassed – come in with only expectations for yourself, not your dog- this is a new environment, they will probably not be at their best and that's OK!

  • Harassment of our staff or other guests (including other animals) will not be tolerated.

Accidents happen! Please alert us if there's a mess that needs to be cleaned up.
